1. Try the US News Rankings

Thought these links might be of some help:

Colleges are ranked differently according to specialties like African-American Literature, American Colonial Literature, Literary Criticism, etc. so you might want to give it some though on exactly which field in English you would like to major in. I did a Masters in English Literature, and it was sheer fun all the way. Best of Luck!

  2. English is a common major, so almost every college will have an English program. It's almost impossible to rank them. Obviously, the more prestigious the university, the more likely it is to have a good program.

This may not apply to you now, but I do know that the college I attend (The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas) does have a very good MFA program in Creative Writing, if you are interested in furthering your education after you get your Bachelor's degree.

  3. Well, it depends where you want to go. Most schools have a pretty good English Major program. UCR is one of them. Almost all UC's do. Its one of the most common majors chosen so it is available everywhere. But, the more well known schools, will, of course, have the better program. Some schools that have better ones are- NYU, Adelphi, American, Boston U, Boston College, Clark, George Mason, George Washington, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, San Diego State University, and Virginia University.

    Good luck
