Question:

What are some good ways I can let off steam instead of crying, cutting, or killing myself?

I am bottling it all in and I need some help, any help? I want to cut myself, I am trying not to do it. Please, I need help. What can I do? I need to do something now or I will hurt myself. And not see a doctor, cause that won't help me right now since I am at home and it is 8.

  1. wow, never cut or kill yourself, NEVER.  its okay to cry, but i would suggest breaking something inexpensive, it really helps

  2. a few people have said jogging/running/biking already, id just like to say this is a proven way to make yourself feel better. Heavy breathing has been proven to help release a chemical in the brain that makes you fell happier.

  3. Call a friend, call a hot line like 800-SUICIDE, 800-DONT-CUT (it won't show up on your phone bill and its free)

    Write all your feelings in a journal.

    And it's okay to cry, trust me.

  5. Hello sweetie,

    I think the best way is to vent.  Perhaps talk a walk or write a poem, maybe take some karate, that always helps with the mind and your physical aspects of problems deep inside.

    Nothing in this world is that bad to want to hurt yourself, k?  This is talking from many years of experience my friend.

  6. I agree with the first answer: buy a boxing bag! Of course, you can't do that right now, so maybe you could try doing something else that involves dexterity or doing detail with your hands/fingers. Like, making elaborate doodles on a piece of white paper with a black Sharpie (fine point). Or, get out the cleaning supplies and start cleaning your place. This is a really good distraction if you focus on being obsessive about how clean you can make everything. I hope some of this helps......

  7. STOP, don't cut yourself that is sick.  Try doing something that will relax you, go for a walk or a drive.  Just don't do that to youself that is sick.  

  8. I do an amazing class at the gym which involves alot of punching and kicking it is an awesome way to let of steam without having to spill your guts.   I am not a fitness freak by any means i just love that class.

  9. Try writing your feeling on paper. Painting is also helpful or you can take the excercise approach which stimulate endorphins in your body.

    Sometimes a loud AHHHH scream  until your almost out of breathe helps also. I tend to laugh after I do it cause it kinda sounds funny!!

  10. Laugh.  It sounds cheesy and too easy but it really helps.  And the more you do it, the easier it gets.

  11. Ok, when you're alone, jump around, run, yell at the top of your lungs, punch anything (that's soft!) like your bed or a pillow or a punching bag, and yell some more. It feels relieving afterwards.

  12. ok first off: dont cut yourself IT IS STUPID and wont solve anything. I used to cut and burn myself when i was a kid but its not the answer .. HAVE THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS YOU CAN, THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS YOU CANNOT CHANGE, AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. example: you know that its wrong to cut yourself and you can stop doing it so STOP IT! you feel like you need to cut yourself and cant help feeling this way so accept this is how your feeling but DONT CUT YOURSELF! these feeling will fade with time:)..concentrate on somthing else in your life  trust me things get better the longer you STOP CUTTING YOURSELF....hope this helps ya.:)

  14. Count to ten or punch a pillow. :) thats what i do but never hurt yourself.. i feel like i want to cut myself alot to.. but im not emo. i dont really know i sleep and tell a friend about it then they will help me.. And im a 15 Y/O guy.

  15. When I got emotional as a teenager, I used to cry and hurt myself. But then I started keeping diaries. I wrote all my feelings down and let out my anger. I have nearly 20 books filled now, and you can tell how angry I was by how scrawled the writing is, but when I read what I was angry about, it all seems so silly now. It was a safe, harmless way to channel my feelings, and eventually this turned to inspiration. I'm studying art and creative writing at university now, because I managed to turn my anger into creativity :) You could try this too! That's my suggestion anyway. Just give it a go ^-^

    Take up a physical sport like volleyball, kickboxing, soccer, tennis etc.

    some sort of club/activity that keeps you preoccupied.

  17. Get a gun and go to the firring range. Buy some work out videos. Do about 200 sit ups and tell me if you still want to hurt your self or just lay there and not move. Find something to do that will take your mind off your problems.  

  18. Scream into a pillow and then go out for a run/walk.  Try to get some exercise into your life- especially when you are starting to feel like you need to let off steam.  It helps, I promise.

  20. physical exertion, go jogging, or run in place, clean the house, scrub something, anything to get you moving and keep you moving until you've gotten out the anger and are tired enough to rest.  Works for me.

  21. TAKE OUT YOUR ANGER ON A PILLOW OR THAT PERSON'S STUFF IF YOU HAVE ,WATCH A HILARIOUS MOVIE,TALK TO YOUR FRIEND ON THE PHONE,GO OUT TAKE A NICE WALK AND THINK IT THROUGH.TALK OR YELL TO THAT SOMEONE THAT HURT YOU.HOPE YOU GET WELL SOON=O)

  22. put some glass bottles or jars in a plastic bag...take a hammer and smash the bag of glass with the hammer

    go into your car or anyones car and close the doors and just scream, curse, yell etc...

    put up a few pillows or cushions on a bed or couch or against the wall and just beat the c**p out of the cushions or pillows.

    lift weights or do as many push ups as you can..wearing yourself out

    those are things I do when I need to release anger. Hope it helps!

  23. Uhh you can do lots of things. I like to write when I'm upset just write EVERYTHING that is bothering you. It really does help. If you don't want to do that then you can do some crunches or some exersises or anything. don't cut yourself. I don't know what's bothering you but it's not worth the pain. Tomorrow it will probably be better.

  24. DO NOT cut yourself! PLEASE!

    scream in a pillow, punch something, scribble on paper, write down your feelings, vent in a blog or something. call someone over to talk to them. dont let yourself be alone. that person will prevent you from cutting yourself. just please dont cut.

  25. Go run a few miles while listening to some tunes. It will burn off the steam. If that doesn't work answer some questions on Y!A. If that doesn't work go on another internet forum or an internet chatroom (so you're too busy to kut). Take your razors and lock them in a box and don't take them out unless you need to shave (so its a hassle to get, it will take longer to get them so you don't do it on impulse). Drink an amount of nyQuil slightly higher than the recommended dosage and go to sleep. Hope this helps, good luck!

  26. Wow, you have a lot of responses already, I hope mine doesn't get lost somewhere in here. Start a journal. Every time you need to blow off steam, write it down. Write down the situation and how it's making you feel. If you're poetic, write poems, but don't make them dark poems, think happy thoughts, you'll get there!

  28. Pray =)  Maybe you're not religious/don't believe in God, but it works because you're letting your feelings out and no one has to know.  I also agree with something someone said above, laugh.  Best medicine, they say =D

    Specifically exercise that has very little opportunity for frustration.

    Also, nature + sunlight can help some people.

  30. you need to calm down down and watch something like a movie or read a book to take your mind off what ever's bovering you. you need to prove yourself wrong by not hurting youself and having control over it. everyone gets emotional and depressed its normal but by taking it out on yourself is wrong and isnt solving the problem. maybe you could ring someone up like a close friend or relative and talk about whats wrong so someone can comfort you and make u feel better? goodluck! x

    just keep writing until you have nothing left to think ar cry

    then write some more

    apparently going for a run is the most tension relieving thing

    make a list of the most beautiful things in your life right now

    simple and pointless things

    but preventative

    ring someone really close to you and talk to them about it

    they might just be able to help you
