  1. Take a look at pictures of aquariums. Note what you like about them. If you can, possibly ask what sorta things they used in their tanks, etc etc.

Then draw out a plan on where everything will go. That way when you actually do start putting stuff in, you'll know exactly where you wanted it so won't waste time figuring out that.

Just keep taking a step back and looking at the tank to see if it's how you want it. If not, then just make the adjustments :)

If you want it to look as natural as possible, make sure to situate plants and such to where they hide the filter intake, and heater and whatever else. Bogwood is always a nice touch. So is slate.

Real plants of course. And a natural colored gravel or sand.

Great forums w/ alot of knowledgable people w/ phenomenal natural looking tanks.

  2. Arrange hiding places, arches, and, if you can, a small cave. Most community fish tend to like such sheltered areas to hide in, especially at night.

  3. The best way would be to incorporate natural elements into your aquascape, such as driftwood and rock. To get some inspiration i would get the 3 "Nature Aquarium World" books by takashi amano. He is very proficient at blending natural elements to create a composition. I would google him for now and see where that gets you.

    Hope I helped. =]
