  1. Well, guinea pigs do tend to get fat! They're lazy creatures and because they constantly chew things and eat hay, they can gain weight easily..

But just let them out, LET them run around in a supervised, safe area. There's nothing you can do to actively encourage them- they won't chase after treats, and you running will just scare them into moving- but if you give them the space, at least they have the chance.

But really, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as your guinea pigs aren't hideously obese, you can actually let them gain a bit of weight, and it doesn't effect their health.

DO NOT GET A GUINEA PIG BALL OR WHEEL.

Those are just ways for companies to make money.

Guinea pig wheels and balls injure guinea pigs, hurting their backs, their short legs, and causing injury that is agonizing and may cause them to have to be put to sleep.

Guinea pigs don't have the right body type for a ball, and it isn't worth the risk. Which is why I didn't suggest it.

  2. Let them out of the cage & let your dog chase them.

Our family guinea pig was also very fat but lived well beyond their expected age. We also have parrots who were always very interested in piggy's whereabouts.

Make sure your dog is not the type who would harm your pig...

  3. Really all you can do is provide lots of floor time for them. No they do not make guinea pig balls, DO NOT put your guinea pig in a ball or wheel. Guinea pigs do not have the flexibility to run in these safely, they will injure themselves.

  4. Get a guinea pig ball, take him/her outside and watch closely or close door to enclosed room and let run on the floor.
