What are some good ways to help me learn Dutch?

My family is Dutch and every one speaks English and Dutch except for one aunt and her immediate family and my mom and our immediate family so I've decided to learn the language. I've ordered a Dutch-English dictionary through a local store. Unfortunately there are no Dutch classes offered in my city and I couldn't find a good one for free on the internet. I'm going to make memory cards (you know the ones with a picture on one side and the word for the picture on the back) so I can learn some vocab. Does anyone have any neat ideas?

  1. Well you'll never be fluent if you aren't submerged in the language. I go to school in French, and I learned it that way. We have 5 hours of dutch a week too. If you can, spend some time in holland.

  2. Move to Holland.

  3. The fastest and most interesting way to learn Dutch is to train yourself with the help of a course like Assimil. Price is around 100 EUR and you get a book and a CD. It takes 15 mins of your time daily and in a few months you are able to speak the language. It's not just advertisement talk, I did it myself to study Thai starting from scratch and the result is quite OK. If the 100EUR are too much, you can probably get it also at your library. If your bookstore does not sell, they can probably order it or you buy it from the internet.

    Success !

  4. if your family speaks english and dutch i suggest getting them to help you. cuz the only way to really learn is to someone teach you. vocab cards are great but you'll need to learn like grammar and stuff. maybe you could do it over the phone if you can't in person?
