  2. Check out the Gutenberg Project at

    http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

    It's basically an online public library, and it has all the classics as well as references, fiction and non, etc.

    They're Zip files, which you can usually open up in Notepad or convert to another format.

    You can also legally download the Baen Free Library.
