I am in charge of two parent child interactive groups. I need some ideas for art activities for birth - age 3. Other activitites for other ages would be great, but my focus is geared towards b-age 3.

  1. Potato stampers with waterbased paints i.e. cut out shapes in potatoes.

    Sponge painting.

Playdoh - salt dough is good at Xmas to hang on Xmas trees.

    chalk outside or on blackboards

one they will love that doesn't involve any mess - Waterpainting - tubs of water, big brushes and a wooden fence or something like that to "paint" to their hearts content

  2. You can explore color by using food coloring and water.  Drop the food coloring into a cup of water, then add another color to discover a new color. It also works to make different colors of water and then mix them together.

Lots of simple painting ideas such as dip a string (or dental floss) in paint, place it on colored paper, fold in half and pull out the string.  Open to see unusuall designs.

Use peel and stick paper  (contact) in different colors and shapes to create cards, etc.  Or just tear paper and glue. Squeeze glue onto paper and sprinkle colored sand over it.

Clay is always popular as well.

  3. Your best bet would be to go to those stores that are specifically focused towards teaching.  I know when I helped in preschool the children loved playing in shaving cream put down on the table.  We would teach them how to make designs shapes letters etc.  It is clean and easy to clean up also.  They also love to paste.  You can have pieces for a project pre-cut tell them what pieces they each are step by step and let them paste, clue them on themselves.  You would be amazed out how different and cut they come out.  There are lots of books in the book stores too (and the library) that can help you come up with ideas.

  4. good

  5. Finger painting with pudding or whipped cream with food coloring.  Completely safe should they try to eat it.
