What are some great cons to get free food?

I'm writing a story and in it the characters go on a date, in which they both use cons to get free food. I was wondering if anyone knew any small level cons that are more romantic than rooting through the trash for a receipt.

I went to a juice bar with my lactose-intolerant sister that asians owned. I asked them if a particular one had dairy, and they said no. We bought it, i had a sip first, and all i could taste was butter and cream. We went back and asked them what was in it. He then replied 'butter, skim milk, cream,mango..' and i was like "EXCUSE ME? butter? MILK? that is dairy! my sister is allergic! she could have DIED! can i PLEASE have a refund?!' and he was like '...ok' and looked scared s**+tless. I had the drink up on the counter, and as he gave me my money back, it looked like he was about to grab the drink, but i snatched it just before he did and gave him a greasy.

d**n asians should learn english. Im not being racist, im just so sick of them speaking in their little languages. If they want to live here, they should know how to communicate properly. end of story.

putting a bug in your food? not sure, the only times i get free food is if the waitress/waiter is rude and my food takes to long to come out when they are not busy. so i complain to the manager. thankfully i only had to do this twice
