There are a lot of ways:

Walk or use your bike to get to places close by instead of using your car

Use a cloth grocery bag

If you can afford a hybrid vehicle buy one

Turn off the lights if you are not in the room

Unplug appliances when not in use

Recycle, recycle!

Improve gas mileage by taking off racks on your car if you don't need them

use flourescent light bulbs, dolphin-safe tuna, recycle, plant maple trees, stop junk mail, use both sides of a sheet of paper, and more.

Well, getting rid of ethanol fuel would be about the biggest help in north america.

Considering China is bringing a new coal fired power plant online every WEEK from now until 2020, we are all downwind of China and that alone will negate ALL that we can do in north america combined.  So the only way to have true environmental and green initiative is to reduce the consumption of the largest population on the face of the planet.  So people can give you all these fluffy answers.  The real solution will be dealing with the Chinese consumption coming online.

By the way, per capita, Canada consumes more than anyone else.   More than the USA.  There are a lot of solutions, but they ALL must be enacted to have any real effect.

Recycling, riding your bike more, plant more trees, don't use pesticide, compost, using those natural gas ..called um.. ethanol i think, selling a car if you have more than 1 or 2.
