  1. Are you referring to black slaves in America, or slaves in gereral. I think most slaves regardless of race or ethnicity have had to deal with horrible things. The American slave problem was horrible but really a microscopic event in the history of slavery. There have been slaves since there have been societies, and every race has been used as slaves. The largest slave trade ever was the Slovakian slave trade which is actually where the word slave is derived from.  Many slaves have been continually beaten, raped, or killed throughout history. Look at the pyramids temples surrounding them filled with the bodies of slaves that were killed to build them but yet people still talk about how great they are. If those were built in America by whites with black slaves people would be calling for them to be demolished.

  2. http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/slave...

This is about a slave auction but there is more on the site.

  3. Death

    Family separation

    Physical abuse

    Disease

Famine(even though the owners had enough)

    Loss of their humanity

    Loss of their culture

    Forced cultural diffusion

    Rape

the list goes on and on

some people are going to answer your question as if your clueless but they just think everyone should know. A movie doesn't really compare to reality. Its understandable that your trying to conjure up more knowledge about this historical occurence.

  4. Separation of Family and heritage.

    Forced and inhuman labor.

    Dehumanization.

    Castration

    Brainwashing

    Identity theft

There is many, many more, but this is all i could think of right now.

  5. I took a Civil War history class a couple of years ago so I am not expert, but I think the hardest part and one that emcompasses so much is that slaves do not have freedom and within that they don't have the right to choose.

A couple of years ago I heard some idiot talk about the Civil War and that if the slaves didn't like their situation they could just run away. Yeah, right. This person was trying to persuade me that they did have that choice. I didn't buy it because their were ramifications for any choice they made and they were all bad.

I agree with alot of the others here.  That in the U.S. not being able to read or write, being considered as property and not being included in the Bill of rights for a long time is a hardship.

Not having a voice must be a horrific thing to go through.

  6. Are you serious?  Have you ever seen Roots?  Lets see: rape; children taken from their parents, spouses separated, daily physical abuse, murder etc....

Having your freedom and way of living taken away and having to adjust to a new culture was a hardship in itself.

obedmanue:  I gave you a point on your answer.  I guess I should have relaxed from my day at work before answering questions.  Now that I have, I see the question as you did.  I really did not mean to be insensitive.
