  1. If you are used to eating fried or highly salted foods it will take a while for you to get used to eating heart healthy foods.

Even though your doctor says CUT THE FAT!  he doesn't mean you have to do it all at once!  You didn't get where you are in one day and you can't fix it in one day either.

Start by eating your favorite fried foods in baked broiled or grilled versions but don't be too stingy on salt.  Use sides that are more healthy, like steamed vegetables with a bit of olive oil or even butter, instead of bacon fat.  Have a baked potato with a DAB of butter instead of fries.  Just small stuff.  A little at a time you will find that you lose your taste for the higher fat version of things.

A heart healthy meal recipe that we enjoy is chicken fajitas. We use boneless breast of chicken marinated in lime juice and a touch of soy sauce.  RIght before we grill them, we sprtiz them with Pam.  We use flour tortilla (almost no fat or salt in those) low fat cheese, low or non fat sour cream and grilled green peppers and onions, that are cooked in the microwave first so they only need browned on the grill (no extra fat necessary).  Salsa is fat free but check the labels for salt content.  A vegetable and green salad round out the meal.

    Jalapenos are optional!

  2. I love to saute up a variety of fresh veggies in olive oil with fresh garlic.  You can do boneless skinless chicken breast also and when the pink is gone add in your veggies.

Salmon--grilled or baked is always great for you.
