  1. The savage is heroic in the sense that he is willing to stand up to the dystopia that Huxley writes about.  He is not like the other brainless and ignorant citizens, he sees a problem with society.  He is not content with "balance" being the primary goal of the society.  He sees a problem with Soma and the false escape that it offers from reality.  Of course this can be attributed to his life on the reservation considering in his past circumstance he was exposed to answers and a society with different norms.  Also he is heroic in his unwillingness to take advantage of Lenina Crowne.  She physically desires him, and although John the Savage likes her, he was raised to handle such a situation differently.  This is a bit ironic considering he watched his mother w***e herself around the reservation.  One can only suppose that a child growing up in such a situation would consider physical lust nothing more than normal, and yet the savage does not.  Don't forget his stand against Soma distribution, that was also equally heroic.
