  1. race rc cars that is the best hobbie and anyone can do it get a rustler with xl-5 to start

  2. how about trying prestamped, prequilted, cross stitch baby or lap quilts.

Everything you need normally comes with the kit at the craft stores.

But a little advice, if you do decide to cross stitch, look on ebay or esty, or wendy.com

    ioffer.com

Although they sometimes dontcome with the floss, but thats ok, you can chose the colors you want.

Make sure they come with the floss (if possible), & they have the instructions.

When you get them off of a auction website, there cheaper then the craft store, I normally pay between $9.99-15.00 & thats also including the s&h too.

If yo udo however need more floss that is pretty cheap at teh local craft stores, about 34-40 cents a skien at Hobby Lobby & Micheals. Im not toot sure what it is at JoAnns

    whatever she chooses good luck.

  3. Especially when it's too hot to do strenuous outdoor activities, it's always good to read... many libraries have teen summer reading programs, which can springboard you into many more activities (ask a librarian to point you to the books on your interests). You can learn things that will help you when camping (like campfire cooking, low impact backpacking, survival skills, etc.), or animal training and care as a career (true stories of vets and their patients), and you can check out music and videos at the library that you can watch with your friends, too.

Other 12 year olds I know (I'm old, but I know some 12 year olds) also enjoy swimming (we live near a river that is very popular for inner tubing), and, believe it or not, jewelry making! They've learned to string beads (and some even make their own beads by checking books out at the library or from online tutorials like those on the giant website, www.craftster.org) and make necklaces and earrings that they can share.

Knitting and crocheting are enjoying a big come back among hip older teens, but kind of hard to learn unless you have someone right there to teach you.

One last "domestic" activity I can suggest (cooking can be fun, but it can be TOO HOT for summertime sometimes), is re-purposing tee shirts. Start with secondhand tee shirt and doctor it (cut or sew or embellish) in different ways. Oftentimes you can find them very VERY cheaply at Goodwill or other thrift stores, and you can re-sew them to fit you, stencil or stamp on them (ever make a potato stamp?) or even paint a design. There are many books that show this (at your library, of course!) or craftster.org can help with that, too. (It has a very helpful search function, and is monitored well, so there isn't any bad stuff, too)

One last thing: if you like the outdoors, there's one thing you can do that can only be done in the summer. In early mid August (peaking this year on August 12), the Perseid meteor shower is often breathtakingly beautiful. You must get away from city lights, and watch nature's own fireworks display. Some years are better than others, but few people ever get to see them at all, so it's very cool. There are, of course, meteor showers at other times of the year, but the Perseids are  comfortable to watch and a grand excuse for staying up late.

    Have fun!
