I never heard of this before.

At all the weddings I've attended, there have been three dances:

Bride and Groom (with bridal party joining in part way thru)

Groom and HIS mother

Bride and HER father.

Your husband dances with your mom during the father-daughter dance. I know that it makes more sense to have him dance with his mom then, not yours, but this come from back when it was in poor taste to leave people without an escort (as both his father and your mother would be).

Of course this only holds true if you want to do the formal dances, otherwise he can dance with her at any time, there's no restrictions on it.
