Depends on your age--and money.

But if say you were looking at having it at home and saving some cash and assuming you are a teenager(?), I would talk to your parents and see if your dad would be game for maybe leaving the house for two hours or chilling elsewhere so that you don't have to worry about parents. Ask a couple of your guy friends if they'd volunteer to be butlers/waiters for the night. Either buy some nice but easy food to make or see if your mom will help you out and you two can cook up some really good food beforehand. Then ask over all your girlfriends, tell them it is formal, they have to wear their best and be on their best behavior... then set up your dining room table with the best china you have and flowers and look online for easy but pretty decorations that involve candles.

Play some classical music then relax at your party and have fun, esp when your guy friends come out serving your food in like tuxedos.

Oh, and if you want to go all out do a five course meal. Usually these are small but very tasty foods, start out with soup, then follow with salad, an appetizer, main course, and finish with a dessert.

If you are older and want to spend a lot of money then that was my second suggestion, go out to eat at a fine dining place that offers a five-course meal. You won't regret it.

have all of your friends dress up really formal or semi formal,have all the girls curl their hair to make it look really fancy, go to a fancy restaurant with a small amount of friends :)
