I don't believe in littering and I do want to help the environment and slow down global warming and also get people to start caring more and helping out. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can start or get people in my community to start helping the environment?

  1. I suggest that you try promoting the concept of willmills as a viable alternative energy source. (You might even want to suggest a  windmill bylaw or ordinace for your community.....)

I would put my focus on windmills that can be put up in anyone's backyard as an additional power supply. Some windmills that are made to be used on rooftops can supply much if not all of the needed power for an average house. Putting the focus on many smaller windmills throughout the community, rather than a few large wind turbines atop tall poles, that supply large amounts of power when finally put in place, a backyard windmill can be put up on a weekend. (You might even want to promote a community Windmill Day!!!)

You will need to learn a bit about the physics associated with windmills, (wind power equation), the speed of the wind at various heigths, and the history of wind velocities from weather reports.

Large wind farm have been complained about because people think them unsightly, and because they sometimes kill birds and bats. All these complaints can be remedied, with a little blue paint, or grey paint to blend into the sky background, and noises emmitted to scare birds and bats away.

With a little thought the objections to windmills by their opponents can be overcome. Pehaps the best place to start with a backyard windmill is to see that the gears are always well oiled so they do not squeak.

You may want to find information about historic windmills,.

  2. Raise money for a tv campaign.  There are so many commercials out there for anti-this and that, how about showing what littering does and promote not littering

  3. Start an environmental club at your school. You can get together with friends and pick up litter. It's as easy as that.

Make fliers and posters informing people. Encourage your community to recycle.

Try creating a community garden (if you can find an empty lot or if someone is willing to let you use their property). Grow vegetables, fruits, and herbs. You can sell them and give the money to an organization that is working for environmental causes. Or you can just eat them yourselves and save wasting gas and money to go to the grocery store, it can be your way to protest using pesticides.

Just make sure people are informed about what you are doing and you have permission.
