  1. The absolute best way to do it would be to disassemble it brick by brick and stabilize the ground, perhaps even making a water-inpermiable seal to prevent intrusion fromt he lowered water table

  2. it was never jacked up, what a stupid suggestion. some of the foundation soil on the high side was removed, and the high side settled a bit, making the tower stand up straighter, but lose a half inch of height

  3. They actually jacked it up and rebuilt the foundations under it a few years ago, it will no longer continue to lean further like it was doing before when the foundation was sinking into the loose soil of the area.

However to fix the lean totally would require to remove the entire tower and rebuild the foundations.

  4. Foundation jacking.

They jack the building back up to level and pump more concrete under it.

Underpinning is another way to fix foundation problems.

Yahoo is not letting me post any links.

If you google underpinning you will find a short entry in Wikipedia and an article about underpinning the Saskatchewan Legislature buildings.

OK they let me post Sask gov. but not wiki.

  5. I suggested demolishing all the other buildings in Pisa and rebuilding after the ground level had been regraded to 90 degrees to the Tower. Surprisingly, my suggestion was not adopted.
