I saw a similar question asked, and I was wondering what some of the illegal animals to have as pets are. I currently reside in California, but I don't know if I'm gonna stay here forever, and I don't wanna get a pet that can't go where I go.

  1. Most endangered species are illegal to own, such as alligators, lions, etc.

Some communities also have their own regulations, like banning pit bulls.

  2. Most exotic pets (alligators, turtles, exotic birds, large cats, endangered species, ets) are illegal to have in the US.  If caught, you can get a fine.  I have provided a link below for you to check out.  It's pretty informative.  The biggest downside is that it may be very difficult to find a veterinarian willing to treat an illegally kept animal, and the pet is likely to be confiscated in the case of a bite incident or complaint by a neighbor.

Check out this link too.  It's a list of illegal pets in CA.

  3. With the right permits you can have almost anything.  One woman who lived about twenty miles or so away from me kept tigers.  She had to get rid of them when they kept escaping.

Some communities try to ban pit bulls because the local moron politicians think it will make them look good to the voters.

  4. Well it is different from state to state.  Off the top of my head some that pop up, besides the usual wild animals (lions, alligators, etc.) are certain snakes, ferrets, monkeys, prairie dogs.  It really does vary though.  Things you can get in a traditional pet store though are usally ok no matter what state you are in.

  5. I know that in Texas you cant have a pet skunk.  The only way I think you can have one is by getting a permit which allows you to care for them.

  6. Laws differ from state to state, things such as large cats and endangered species are the main few. In states such as Kansas, a lot things happen to be legal, such as alligators and fennec foxes. Most likely, if it's big enough and poses a threat to the public, it's going to be illegal.

In California all marsupials are illegal, such as sugar gliders. Other common pets that are illegal include hedgehogs and ferrets. Chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and such as are all legal.

But as long as you don't play on getting anything too exotic to where you move to, you should be good. But be sure to check the states laws just to be sure.
