  1. 1) does it have a full service history

    2) has it ever been in an accident

actually, if you are in australia, your best bet is to contact your local motoring authority (such as RACV, NRMA etc) and ask them about pre-purchase vehicle inspections.

they will check out the condition of your vehicle and give you an indication as to it's state.

the advice about checking the insurance on it first too is also good.  quite a few people buy a car they like first, then get a rude shock when they find out how much their insurance is.

they won't however, tell you how much fuel it uses etc.  you'll need to find that out on your own.

  2. Get an experienced car buyer to go with you.

When you narrow your choices down to 2-3 cars, call your local insurance agent to see which one is going to have the best insurance rates.

We see people call my office AFTER they have bought the car and sometimes find out the insurance rate per month is HIGHER than their car note!

Choose wisely and run a CARFAX!

Gppd luck, drive responsibly and I hope this helps!

  3. USED OR NEW?

  4. If you don't know, don't go alone.
