What are some industrial and household uses for american linden wood? (american basswood)?

If it's the same stuff I'm thinking of it carves easily. It was used to add decorative parts to furniture. These days the same attributes would be good for making patterns to build mold to make parts in plastic.

Some cheap drum kits are made from basswood, although it's not as nice sounding as maple or birch it gives a reasonable sound on a budget.
