Outdoor stuff:

-Renting a bicycle and riding along one of the long-distance cycling routes which usually run along a river.

-paddling with a canoe in the East German lakes along the Havel-Spree shipping route or in the Spreewald forest.

- hiking in the Harz, the Bavarian Forest or the Alps.

- rock climbing in the Elbe Sandstone (Elbsandstein) Mountains.

- hinking across the mudflats from the German mainland to one of the islands in the German Bight during low tide

History stuff:

-visit one of the many memorial sites in the former Concentration Camps

- see Quedlinburg

- see at least one of the thousand castles in Germany (for example Potsdam Sancoussi close to Berlin, Festung Königstein near Dresden)

- take a ride with a historical steam engine. There are several, one runs through Heiligendamm (where the G8 was), another connects Quedlinburg with the Brocken in the Harz mountains and another runs on Ruegen island

The religiously inclined usually also visit Luther's church in Wittenberg. Very nice place.

Cool and hip place to party the night away: Berlin.
