What are some interesting things to do in London at night?

By this I mean something other than just clubbing/drinking/smoking--are there any interesting, unique or intellectually stimulating things to do for an American in London between the time the museums close and midnight? Thank you!

You'd be surprised at the number of clubs that have after-hour parties, something that is quite rare in the US, that go until 4am or 5am after some pubs or venues close.  I know you're not looking for the 'club' scene but this is quite a cultural experience... or at least it might seem like that after dancing for 8 hours!

On the more cultural side, you can also check the schedules of a number of the local museums.  The bigger ones often have night events once a month which don't run particularly late but generally occur in the early evening after the normal museum operating hours.

London, with all of its cultural diversity, has some amazing exotic dance classes and food.  If your evening involves checking out a foreign dance style (here is a list of some pretty impressive classes: http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/articles/Spoon... ) or just wandering through London looking for some incredible Indian, Thai, African, Asian... or one of the many other types of food available, you could do worse than that!
