What are some interesting topics in genetic research these days?

I'm just beginning my education in the field, and I am curious what sort of interesting things are happening in it.

Cloning is one of the main topic in genetic research for a long time now. Human Cloning and animals both can be a good topic for genetic research papers. One thing that I think is extremely cool is the concept of symbiogenesis.  That's where one organisms living symbiotically with another organism eventually develops into a single organism with a combined (and therefore, unique) genome.
