  1. To stop acid rain you need to shut down coal fired power staions and other coal burning factories. Alternatively they need to clean up their emissions before discharging.

    The faster alternative to preserve the monuments would be to coat them with a clear lacquer, wax or silicon based sealant. Marble is the main stone affected by acid rain because calcium carbonate is easily dissolved in acid.

    You could also build a physical barrier by capping the monuments with a decorative moulding or similar made of more resistant materials. This would reduce rain contact.
