I have anemia and was told by my doc to take vitamins with iron but I also wanted to know what are some foods that will also give me lots of iron?

  1. Foods that are a good source of iron include:

    liver

    lean red meats, including beef, pork, lamb

    seafood, such as oysters, clams, tuna, salmon, and shrimp, etc.

    beans, including kidney, lima, navy, black, pinto, soy beans, and lentils

    iron fortified whole grains, including cereals, breads, rice, and pasta

    greens, including collard greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach, and turnip greens

    tofu

    vegetables, including broccoli, swiss chard, asparagus, parsley, watercress, brussel sprouts

    chicken and turkey

    blackstrap molasses

    nuts

    egg yolks

    dried fruits, such as raisins, prunes, dates and apricots

  3. i recommend u to eat chicken liver and black honey..these are the best types of food that will supplement you with a great amount of iron...trust me

  4. Foods rich in iron and the highest source of iron usually come from animal origin for example liver, kidneys and meats.Heme Iron, found in animal sources, is highly available for absorption. Non-heme iron on the other hand, found in vegetable sources, is less available.

    Pregnant women should not eat liver because of its very high Vitamin A content.

    Avoid Coffee & Tea to maximize iron absorption.

  5. ~ I also have low iron and eat a healthy diet since a lot of veggies have iron.  However, I snack on pumpkin seeds which have a good amount of iron in them and is a very healthy snack.

  6. Green vegetables have a lot of iron.  Spinach, broccoli, beans, cabbage etc. If you're a meat eater then beef is a good source of iron.
