I've done some volunteer work with a variety of animals and I'd like to get a paying job working with animals. I already thought of working in a pet shop. Can anyone think of anything else I can do without a degree?

  1. A pet shop would be good, but go for a smaller one because the smaller ones are the ones that are more likely to sell exotic animals like lizards and snakes, parrots...

If you go for a bigger pet shop chain the chances are you'll just be working with rabbits all day, and to be honest there isn't that much more you can do with animal qualifications, many people spend years at college studying animal courses and then they end up working in pet shops or for charities bringing no money in for themselves, so i'd definitely suggest a small pet shop

  2. You could also try looking for a clerical job in a vet office.  This will get your foot in the door and could lead to working more closely with the animals in the future.

  3. Feedlot, dairy or on a farm. I grew up on a farm and it is good honest work that pays pretty well.

  4. Working at an animal shelter or rescue.

Ive spent a day at a animal shelter to experience it, and it shouldnt even be qualified as work, because, if you love helping animals, its what you do.

Even though you get paid. :)

all and all, it works out great.

  5. humane society

    pet shop

    pet grooming services

pet training (if you are any good at that)

    pet sitting

    circus

  6. you can be a kennel asst. in a vets office. or work the front desk. you also dont need a degree to be a vet. asst. which is different from vet tech.

  7. My suggestion would be to work in a vet office as a veterinary assistant. In most states you can take the veterinary technician test with two years experience as a vet assist. It is the same test you have to take after going to school to become a veterinary technician in order to get your license.  Hope this helps

  8. You can work at a kennel or grooming place
