  1. There are several types of "social worker" jobs. There is the Birthmother councilor, homestudy worker and adoption worker. Other jobs can be normal secretarial type jobs where you make sure all the clients paperwork received and filed to answering phones/making appointments. There is also a position for someone doing ICPC paperwork and legal issues. There is also people that escort families to other countries and help arrange travel for international adoptions.

Their are people that have to put together the referrals and deal with a forign governments to make sure the referral complies with the Hauge convention.

Depending on the agency, there may be a person helping advise and layout the parent profile books.

Maybe teaching classes on transracial adoption.

There would even be someone in charge of advertising and doing accounting for the agency. Web design too. Remember, it is a business.

  2. Are you good with computers? IT

    Organized? Administrative professional

What kind of tasks do you want to do? When you figure out HOW you want to help, you can come up with a career plan.

  3. You could get a law degree and practice family law.

  4. How about a janitor?

  5. Most of it depends on your state.  In my state only a licensed Social Worker can conduct Home Studies and provide case management.  In other states you can have any one of a number of degrees in human services or psychology and do the same job.

Beyond doing home studies and case management (for either the adoptive child or the birth parents) there are secretary type jobs, where you would simply handle the volumes of paperwork involved in an adoption.  Or you could do family law and help families finalize adoptions.

Without a social work degree (or something similar) you are pretty limited in what you can do for an adoption agency.

  6. Do your own homework, this is cheating and I'm going to tell your teacher.
