Oregon currently has the highest minimum wage in the country, so you can make "good" money flipping burgers or pumping gas; at least compared to other states.

Serioulsy though, call centers like the many out on the West side may something to think about.  Call center work is pretty demanding mentally and not always pleasant, so it can pay pretty good.  Some jobs may require 6-months to 1 year of general customer service or office-type experience, but the main requirements are people skills, a good working knowledge of computers, and a good typing speed.

Stream pays $9-$11 an hour, sometimes with commission, depending on the account you are assigned to.  Comcast has a call center off the MAX  in Beaverton and they were hiring at at least $10 an hour a few years ago.  Netflix recently opened a call center in Hillsboro and they were advertising positions at around $14 an hour.  One of Pizza Hut's main call centers is near the Hwy 217-26 interchange (my sister has worked there for something like 4 years now).

Portland is becoming a call center mecca, even with so much outsourcing to other countries, so it may be worth a look if you're up to it.  There is a LOT of turnover in the industry, so most places are almost always hiring.
