  1. It must have been some time since the tendons have been bowed, usually the immediate care is ice baths, ice packs, anything with ice or cold water...liniment comes later, when you need the heat and increase in circulation.  I think that I would call the vet back, verify that the tendons are indeed bowed and ask him/her what liniment to use.

  2. Years ago the remedy would be euthanasia, there are drugs but that is done by a vet to the best of my knowledge.

How did this horse end up this way? I'm sure there are liniments to make it feel better, but the vet has the answers for you.

    Good Luck

  3. Sorry, not familiar with any liniments for bowed tendons and I have not ever heard of that as a recommendation.  If it is a new condition, the leg should be iced 3-4X a day for 30 minutes for at least two days with absolute rest.   After the first 2 days, ice and moist heat can be alternated for 4-6 days 3-4X a day with the heat being on (make sure it is not too hot and it must be moist heat - not dry) for 90 minutes and the cold packs 30 minutes and ending with cold.  After 6 days, moist heat alone can be beneficial to promote healing.   As far as topical applications, DMSO can be used to reduce inflammation and it has some antioxidant benefits.  DMSO can be used daily 1X per day if the leg is bandaged.  If the leg is not covered, you can apply DMSO  2-3X per day.  (always use gloves to touch DMSO).   Sorry could not offer more.  Hope this helps a little.  So sorry about your horse.  Too often, this is a critical injury. So sorry.  good luck.
