If you're looking for running shoes, it really depends on the shape of your foot and the height of your arch.  There are specialists on those kinds of things, or you could go to Runner's World's web page to find info.  As for the style of the shoe, you really shouldn't be too picky, but you will probably like most of the shoes out there, anyway.  Brooks and Asics are common running shoe brands.
