I am having a birthday party for my 3 children. It will be all family but the party is kind of late in the day for lunch and way to early for dinner. I was wondering if any one had some great ideas for something to eat with out making a meal and hopefully doesn't cost much. I have a very low budget left for this party. I am expecting about 18 adults and about 13 children (infant to school age). ANY Great IDEAS out there??? Thanks in advance for all who share their ideas. :)

  1. Jello Jigglers (can cut into shapes with a cookie cutter) .... PB&J sandwiches (can cut those too with a cookie cutter) ...  cheese cubes with a thin pretzel stick stuck into the top  ...  veggie / Ranch dip platter ... fruit platter ...

    TORTILLA ROLLUPS

Get a package of the largest flour tortillas you can find.  Put a thin layer of softened cream cheese, a thin slice of ham and cheese on each one;  roll each tightly up and wrap in saran or foil.  Refrigerate at least 1 hour.  Cut into 1" pieces before serving

  2. go to sams club, bjs, cosco or a party supply ware house

they will have food and snacks in bulk for really cheap!!!

also get decorations form the warehouse and can find everything you need to make goody bags! they have big boxes of pigs in a blanket, just pop them in the oven. They have lots of finger foods like pizza bagels/bites, packages or hotdogs(through them on the grill). Also they have variety pack candies that you can stick in a pinyata or put in goodybags! trust me on this one youll get the best deal!!

Also buy watermelons and slice them up u cant go wrong with that!!or even get coldcuts and make finger sandwitches!

  3. Some ideas:

Celery w/ peanut butter or cream cheese

Cheese cubes (you could also cube some chicken, turkey or ham to go w/ the cheese)

Fruit salad or fruit w/ a dip

    Popcorn or Caramel Corn

English Muffin pizzas (the kids can make their own)

    Chips and dip

    Some Recipes:

    Yogurt Dipped Strawberries:

    Ingredients:

    1 quart fresh strawberries

    1/2 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt

    1/4 cup granola

    Preparation:

Wash and dry strawberries with a paper towel. Do not remove stems.

    Beat yogurt until very smooth.

Place granola in a small bowl.

Dip strawberries, one at a time, first in the yogurt, then into the granola, pressing gently with your fingers to help the granola adhere.

Place strawberries on a plate. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

This is a fun idea too:

Goldfish in the Pond Rice Cakes

    Ingredients:

    4 plain rice cakes

    1/4 cup whipped cream cheese

    2 drops blue food coloring

    Goldfish crackers for decorating

    Preparation:

Put the whipped cream cheese into a small bowl, and add two drops of food coloring. Stir until it becomes the color of the sea.

Spread one tablespoon of cream cheese on each rice cake.

Place the Goldfish crackers standing up in the "pond."

    Pig-in-a-Blanket Lollipops

    Ingredients:

    1 egg yolk

24 mini hot dogs or sausages

    Puff-pastry sheets, defrosted

    24 skewers Preparation1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

    Preparation:

In a bowl, beat the egg yolk with a little bit of water.

Cut the hot dogs in half diagonally.

Cut the puff pastry into 1/2-inch strips. Cross them to make an "x" and wrap them around the hot dogs to create a lattice pattern.

Place the wrapped hot dogs on a cookie sheet and brush them with the beaten egg yolk.

Bake until golden, 15 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven, push a stick into each hot dog, and serve warm with mustard or ketchup for dipping.

  4. Pigs in a blanket are inexpensive and are kid and adult friendly.

I buy the small sausages and a roll of pillsbury or store brand crescent rolls and roll them up and back them up.

What is a little more expensive and work but worth it is the store bought pizza dough and sausage wraps.

  5. Since you're having family over, perhaps they can help you out by bringing a snack to share as well.  Here are some ideas:

    1.  Vege stix and ranch dressing

    2.  Chips and dip or salsa

    3.  Trail mix or Chex mix

    4.  Lil smokies in bbq sauce

    5.  A giant Subway or Togos sandwich that can be cut into smaller portions.

    6.  Check out Costco or Sam's club...they have great deli trays and gigantic pizzas for cheap!

    7.  Have a sundae or "float' party wherein you purchase the ice cream, toppings, and rootbeer and everyone makes their own.

    8.  Have a cupcake decorating party, you make plain cupcakes and each child gets to decorate their own.

    9.  Peanut butter and honey sandwiches, cut into quarters

    10.  Cheese platter with crackers and fruit

    11.  Fresh fruit on kabobs
