I am currently a criminal justice major in my 2nd year in college. I live in LA but go to school in northern california. After graduation, I would like to join the force in Los Angeles but not sure yet which one to join. I would like to do this for a few years before trying out for the FBI academy and hopefully joining that. Any information would help and would be greatly appreciated.

  1. LAPD wears dark blue uniforms and they actually look like cops, while LASD wears green pants and brown shirts and they look like park rangers.

  2. LAPD is just the city but LASD is county wide

and the best place would be LAPD because it would be easier earn higher ranks

  3. The LAPD officers are responsible for policing the city of L.A.  LASD deputies are responsible for policing the unincorporated areas of L.A. County.  LASD is also responsible for court security, housing, transport and safety of county prisoners, as well as civil process.

  4. LASD is much broader.  They do jail and courthouse security, community colleges, and trains, in addition to the regular police work that LAPD does.
