  1. well, answer could be really long; there are  too many places in the listed italian cities that are worthy with a visit.

Since you have the entire month of July I would suggest you these main musts going from north to south.

VENEZIA -VENICE -Piazza San Marco and Basilica di San Marco- Ponte di Rialto - a trip in gondola - visit to Murano island (artistic glasses) and to Torcello island (pillow laces).

PISA-PISE - Piazza dei Miracoli with the famous leaning tower, the Baptistery and the Cathedral, Santa Maria della Spina Church,

Lungarni (alongside the river Arno),Piazza dei Cavalieri.

FIRENZE-FLORENCE - Santa Maria del Fiore, Campanile di Giotto, the Baptistery with the famous golden doors of Ghiberti,Galleria degli Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge),Giardino dei Boboli, Galleria dell'Accademia (with the famous David of Michelangelo),Basilica

Santa Croce and Piazzale Michelangelo (on the hill above Florence with an unforgettable general panorama of the town).

SIENA-SIENNE -The Cathedral (Duomo) - the medieval town -

Piazza del Campo.- If you have the opportunity to be over there by July 2nd 2007 you can live the famous Palio-

Florence and Siena are located in Tuscany (my region) and in this area there are full of small cities with great things to be seen.

But my answer must be finished in a few lines and I can't describe you any of them...

ROMA-Rome -The Coliseum - Vaticano city with the Basilica di

San Pietro - Foro Romano - Terme di Caracalla- Via Appia Antica - Castel Sant'Angelo- Pantheon etc.etc.

Sorry but I cannot suggest you anything to avoid.

Don't bring with you too much money;buy a few hundred Euros in the States (in Italy you will get a bad exchange rate) and yr creditcard. VISA-DINER'S-AMERICAN EXPRESS or similar are well known (and welcome) almost everywhere.

In case of need you can also get cash with in many different places.Don't wear costly garments, watches or jewelery,

In July will be really hot and then bring a white hat with you.

The cost of this one month staying in Italy will totally depend on you; in the past the conversion rate US$/€ was more favourable than nowadays but this is out of our control...!!

Have a nice staying and enjoy my Country.

  2. G'day moobaby09.

    Thank you for your question.

There is a lot to see and do in Italy. I am green with envy.

According to visitors to Yahoo! Travel, the must see attractions are:

    1. Rome (a must see for the Colosseum, the Vatican) etc

    2. Florence (artwork etc)

    3. Venice (canals)

    4. Milan

    5. Naples (Pompeii is not far from Naples)

The Palio is held in Siena on the second of July. It is well worth a visit especially as Siena is a beautiful place anyway.

I would use Florence as a base especially as I assume that you are staying with friends and family and try to plan trips there that you can return home from. Given the exchange rate, I would bring as much money as possible.

I would also look at doing a trip south to Rome and Naples for a week or so.

Yahoo! Travel has got a good site with lots of useful tips on places to go, see and eat. I have also attached links to travel guide sites so you can do further reading.

    Have a great time.

    Regards

  3. Milan - The Refrectory of Santa Maria del Grazie to see The Last Supper (Tickets in advance)

Venice - Saint Mark's Square, The Doge's Palace, Rialto bridge, Bridge of Sighs, Arsenal, The Accademia, Giacomo Cassanova's house, The Grand Canal and Murano.

Rome - Vatican Museums which include the Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Basillica, Castel Saint Angelo, Forum, Colosseum, Palatine, Circus Maximus, Via Appia, Gallery Borghese, Capitoline Museums, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and many many churches.

Florence - Uffizi Gallery (tickets in advance), Accademia (Michelangelo's David is there, Bargello, Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia with its sculpture, various churches and family chapels, Palazzo Pitti, Fort Belvedere.

Vinci in tuscanny to see the birthplace of Leonardo da VInci.

    Naples- Pompeii, Herculanium.(1.5hrs from Rome)

Padua, Verona, the lakes, the Dolomites etc etc.

I can only list a few things here or I'd be going on for days

If you're pushed for time then train travel in Italy is very cheep and efficient.

Great guide books are the Eyewitness Travel Guides. They have photos, every attraction you can think of, opening times and great maps.

Take a look at these web sites and enjoy your trip.
