What are some nice, safe and inexpensive travel destinations? (preferably warm!)?

I live in Canada and I am looking to go on vacation possibly sometime later this year or early next year. The place needs to be safe, fun, interesting, fairly inexpensive and I would love it to be warm since I've never been on a "real" vacation so I want it to be good. Southern United States like Florida, Arizona, California and such destinations don't really appeal to me. I was thinking Cancun, Mexico but I hear of shady things going on there in the news (disappearances, murders, other deaths, cover ups etc). I'm not saying all of Mexico is like this but I'd like to take precautions. The place should be English friendly too. It can be anywhere in the world as long as it fits my above description. Thanks ;)

  1. From a purely geographical perspective limiting the amount of time you spend in the air I would go for...

west coast of England, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall etc.

Mediterranean, southern France, Northern Spain, Greek islands.

Morocco whilst it still is a jewel of North West Africa.

Someone mentioned Belize. It's beautiful and a growing destination.

If you can bear to fly further then Frankie is spot on with Thailand. If you make it that far then if you don't mind not getting a culture trip out of your holiday head for one of the Maldives islands.

Or shelve all the above, fly to Croatia, Zagreb and take a boat down the Ionian sea around the islands of the Dalmation coast. A trip I loved, full of beauty, heritage, wonderful food and weather. Whilst there you can pop over to Italy.

    Good Luck

  2. Singapore! And Malaysia too!

visit my travel blog for some photos in Malaysia and other parts of the world-> http://travelerfolio.com

  3. Thailand, stick to the resort islands, like Samui, Phuket etc.

In the Philippines I think it's pretty good too, in your case, get an organisted trip and stick to Boracay, Alona beach on Bohol or any other resort town.

Other than that, Cancun, yechhh, nothing but a stretch of 17 km hotels and a beach. Defintively not cheap. Playa del Carmen, maybe. Better for atmosphere.

Anywhere is as safe as you can make it. Belize city is safe, during daytime. Manila is ok, as long as you stick to the right areas. Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia is quite ok too, they speak good english out there. let me know if you want more info

  4. Cancun is just like being in southern Florida or southern California--and the tourist areas are exceptionally safe.

    Costa Rica is great.
