  1. CRX, mustangs, skylines, lancers

  2. Basically any sporty 2 door Japanese car...the after market has just about anything you could ever want for these vehicles

  3. Honda Civics or Accord Cupes are pretty standard, but a few others would be the Mitsubishi Eclipse or Lancer or the Acura RSX.

  4. Iron,

I've got the 92 MKIII model supra.  You can get them much, much, much cheaper than the twin turbo model.   They have a single turbo 6 cyl. 3 liter engine.  The engine is very strong, aside from the fact that the factory head gaskets tend to fail.   After they are fixed,  you won't have any problems unless you really thrash on it bad. Stock they are about 230 hp, but you could get 400 easily (intake, exhaust, and boost controller) and 500 or 600 with some effort and money.

    checkout www.supras.com

The 93-94 eclipse gsx and talon tsi are mechanically identical.  They have a 4 cylinder turbo.  They are 210 hp or so stock.   They are AWD and ride like a go cart but fast.  I used to have a black one that I'd hot rodded (some of it I had done because I'm not a good mechanic) and it would break all 4 tires loose in first and second gear.   A friend of mine has one that puts out about 600 hp, but it cost him a pretty penny to get there.  The 89-92 models have weaker brakes and half-shafts, so get a 93 or 94 or you'll need to find 93 or 94 parts for the weak spots.  They are made cheaper than supras, and cost alot less to buy a used one, but you'll have more trouble with them as well until you get all the kinks worked out.   Check out www.dsm.org   .

Another guy I know has a very used lexus that puts out 600 hp.  I don't know that much about it, but when people hot rod supras, one source of parts is lexus stuff - for example, the fuel injectors.

It's up to you of course, but if it were me, and I've been in that boat, but I'd think about what looks incredibly cool.  I mean - what car do you want to walk up to and say 'd**n, that's a fine car, and it's mine!' and then, when you get in it and drive it, you think the same thing.

Then, if it's not a ferrari or a mclaren,  you find an old one or a beat up one on the internet (yahoo autos is great), and if it's unusual, the specialy sites like I listed above.   You can generally go back in time as far as it takes or decide how beat up a car and how many miles you can live with and there will be something in your price range.   For example - you can get a used JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) engine for 1300 bucks or so with about 50k miles on it.  If you can get a 1992 or so supra with 200k miles on the engine and bad paint, you could probably buy it for 2 or 3 thousand, maybe less.  You put in a new engine and a thousand dollar paint job, and you've got a beautiful, classic starting point for 5 grand.

    Just a thought.

ps.  The porsche 944's from the 80's are super nice too and drive like a dream, but parts are high.  They are affordable though.

  5. I have 3 Supra's  The can be scary fast. But they are well known for warped heads.

  6. You can make a lot of cars fast. It just depends on what your style is. Anything from Imports to Domestic. I myself love fixing up American Muscle (V8s). However, I am not one to complain about imports that are worth fixing up in my book. Some Imports I do like range from Scions to Nissans to Subarus. It all depends on the money you have. You have to look at many different things when making a decision like this. Number one: gas. With gas prices raising, the more power you put out, the more it'll take gas. Also, a lot of these high power cars (Supras, STis, Evos, etc...), they all take and should run on premium gas (as well as muscle cars). After gas, think about insurance, price of parts, and the risk you take. The risk can range from the car getting stolen/broken into, get into a crash, or cause harm to the motor if pushed to its limits.

However, if you have the money, the time and the knowledge, then it all varies on your style like I said. Start out small if you are just getting into this. Go with bolt on parts (exhaust, intake, headers) and then you can eventually work your way up turbo/supercharger, intercooler, or even break into the motor itself and switch some stuff out.

Anyway, I would like to supe up SRT-4s, Evos, STis, Supra, Scion tCs, Nissan 350Z/300ZX, Camaros, Chevelles, Pontaics Trans am/Firebird, or Mustangs if you chose to. It all varies if you want pure power (V8) or imports to make fast with forced induction. If it were me, I'd go with V8. Just up to you. Good luck!
