What are some nice overnight trips to take with the family close to L.A? ?

I want to get away with the family this weekend, stay over night somewhere close- maybe a 2-3 hour drive from L.A. Not Santa Barbara, San Diego or places like that. Looking for something close but entertaining for the kids where we can stay overnight in a hotel and would be entertaining as far as attractions , shopping, etc. Running out of time and ideas for this weekend. Any help would be appreciated.

Stay in a KOA camping Cabin in San Diego all you need to bring is bed linens and a fun attitude. It close to all the sites and really inexpensive according to San Diego Hotel prices.. It's got a pool play yard Ice cream social on the weekends bike and more.

This weekend in SD is the tall sail ship festival the "black pearl" is to arrive tomorrow

carlsbad, california, its north of san diego it is very nice,      plenty of shopping and attractions close to san diego close to the beach, and you can take a hot air balloon ride in san diego   :)
