an earlier question today asked about nicknames for a railroad, I would like to expand on that and see what some other names given were. I worked on the

MickeyWalkee, (Milwaukee Road)

have been on the Utterly Pathetic (Union Pacific)

have a friend from the Suffering Pathetic (Southern Pacific)

And know guys form the Better Not Start a Family (BNSF)

OMG!! Yahoo suggested I put this on the g*y L*****n and transgendered forum!! Railroaders are an odd bunch but that's going a bit too far.

  1. The train company 'First Great Western' that operates in England is known as 'Last Worst Western'

  2. Only other nickname I had heard was Valley Rattler.

  3. First a correction - to Hoghead's Ma & Pa - that s/b Maryland & Pennsylvania (it's long gone, but there are biking/hiking trails along part of its route)

NYO&W - New York Ontario & Western a/k/a Old & Weary or Old Woman (gone since the 1950s)

  4. In New York City, old subways color with red was called Redbird Cars.

  5. A fun one...

"The Katy Lady"  =  MKT  (Missouri, Kansas, Texas Railroad)

"Ma & Pa"  =  MP  (Missouri Pacific, I think)

"Shouldn'ta  Painted So Fast"  =  SPSF (Southern Pacific Santa Fe)  The merger that never happened, referring to lettering on "Kodakrome" paint scheme.

"Wobbly Pacific" = WP (Western Pacific)

I might be able to add more when the coffee kicks in...

    Addendum:  Thanks for the correction.

    CM&SSM -- SOO LINE

UP -- Uncle Pete [inside nickname]

Nickel Plate -- No Kan Park or No Kan P**s [My dad's; he worked on it]

    CSX -- Chicken S--t eXpress

Any CN subsidiary can be tagged with the "Wet Noodle" nickname --  look at their logos
