  1. I don't think that 3rd & 4th graders are too young to grasp the concepts of the 10 Comandments.

That might be a good one (or ten).

  2. Here's one that's good for explaining how Jesus takes away the sin in our hearts.  My children's church kids loved it and some even showed their parents, almost telling the story word for word.

    SUPPLIES

~Lg. Bowl of water (represents the heart) make it large enough for all the children to see

       ~Salt (represents the good deeds)

       ~Pepper (represents sin)

~Dish soap (represents Jesus) don't let students see you put it on your finger.

Instructions:  Apply a small amount of dish soap on your finger before you do this, don't get it wet or remove it, but make it so the kids can't see it on your finger.  NEXT, Fill the large bowl with water and place it on a table so everyone can see.  Tell the students, "this bowl is our like our heart."  Using a salt shaker, add the salt explaining, "the salt is like the good deeds we do, saying our prayers, being kind to others, obeying our parents and teachers, etc."  NOW, add the pepper, it will float on the water's surface.  Tell the students, "the pepper is like the sin in our lives, saying mean words, disobeying our parents and teachers, stealing, lieing, etc.  See how it kinda makes it harder to see the salt or good things in our heart.  Sin does that."

Continue telling the students, "When we ask Jesus to come into our lives, he will come and make the sin go away just like this."  Place the finger with the soap on it into the center of the bowl and watch the pepper move immediately to the sides of the bowl.  Tell the students that Jesus can do the same with the sin in our hearts and when we ask His forgiveness, he makes the sin in our heart go away.

The kids will be amazed and the story will stick with them.  I had a four year old show this to her parents and they were amazed at how well their child understood.  This is a very powerful object lesson.
