  2. In relation to the play, there are many characteristics that lead Brutus to be the natural leader:

Brutus is considered the most honorable man in Rome. Everyone looks up to him. Even Antony, at the end of the play, says that he was "the most honorable of them all." Whenever people decide to do something, they look up to Brutus for approval. Right before the assassination, when one of the conspirators is begging Caesar to bring his brother back from exile (this is just to get close to Caesar, by the way), Brutus starts begging, as he needs to get close to stab as well. When Caesar sees him beg, he tells the others that they might as well stop trying because if he declined their request when Brutus himself begged, he would certainly decline the rest. This also shows that Brutus never has to beg much, as everyone listens to him.

Brutus also leads truthfully, which leads to winning the trust of his subjects.

Additionally, Brutus cares about everyone, regardless of their stature in society. When Brutus's servant falls asleep while playing the instrument in the war camp, Brutus does not punish him as most people would, but feels sorry for him and tells him to go back to sleep.

  3. The common thought is that Brutus might well have been Caesar's illegitimate son or maybe even his homosexual lover. All of the powerful people in Rome knew that the two loved each other as if they were father and son. So, when Brutus joined in the conspiracy to kill Caesar, others thought it was the right and proper thing to do. I don't know that he had so many leadership skills. It was just his position in Roman society and his closeness to Caesar that gave credibility to the plot. He was called,"the noblest Roman of them all," because he took part in the assassination of someone he loved for the good of his country.

Of course, there was that big blowup with Popeye over Olive Oyl . . . sorry, wrong Brutus.
