    In 2002, when Canada exported slightly less than $5.5 billion US dollars.  Last year, Canada was exporting to Japan at about $8.5 billion US dollars.  From a Japanese standpoint,     in 2006, the Japanese exported 1.2 trillion yen in automobiles, auto parts, machines and equipment and imported 1.1 trillion yen in lumber, pork, canola, pulp, sea foods and coals from Canada.

On the other hand, over 100 Canadian companies have established a commercial presence in Japan. Nearly half of these companies are engaged in the information and communications technologies sector.

    In Oct. 2006, there were 44, 158 Japanese nationals residing in Canada and 11,893 Canadian nationals residing in Japan in December 2006.
