What are some of the best HDTV tuners for an HDTV "ready" TV?

Ok, I'll admit it right off of the bat that I'm ignorant when it comes to most tech-related stuff. However, I went out and bought a DLP tv that claims it is an HDTV but now I found out that to get 1080p quality, I'll need to get add-on HDTV tuner. My question is where can I find these tuners? It seems that most HDTVs now have built in tuners and other than saying "I need an HDTV tuner"... I really have no idea what I'm looking for

  1. HDTV's are either 1080i or 1080p. 1080p has twice the amount of pixels thus twice as clear as a 1080i. BUT all HD signals from cable or satillite is in the 1080i format, meaning that you arent taking full advantage of the 1080p tv anyway. The only things currently that are putting out 1080p signals are HD DVD and BlueRay. If you dont have either one of those than dont bother. A tuner is what changes the channels, if it doesnt have a tunner its called a monitor, like the one hooked up to your computer. So if there is a digital tuner built in than you can recieve HD broadcasting.

  2. Hook up a High-definition set-top-box and subscribe HD channels

  3. You should consider using an HD TiVo  programmable video recorder. They run about $250, but include dual HD tuners for both ATSC (over-the-air) and QAM (cable), so you can record one channel and watch another (or record two channels). So for your money, you get tuners and recorders. The downside is that it requires a monthly subscription that ranges from $8 to $13 per month, depending on you service contract length.

This is nitpicking, but there aren't any channels that are broadcast in 1080p, 1080i is the highest. The only common source for 1080p content is Blue-Ray disc.

  4. Samsung DTB-H260F ATSC Receiver with QAM tuning included.  Considered the industry standard among most PBS broadcast engineers.
