I've always wanted to go there, but I'm not sure what the most amazing things about Ireland would be. Thanks so much!

  1. there are no best parts of ireland mabye the odd nice area most of its a dump cant wait to move to australia

  2. The North of Ireland!

The Donegal Gaeltacht (Gaeltacht Dhún na nGall) is in the West of County Donegal, and is the largest Irish speaking district in Ireland. 30,000 Irish speakers live between Fanad, Gweedore and Glencolmcille, An Gaeltacht Láir and on the islands of Toraigh (Tory) and Árainn Mhór (Arranmore).  In Donegal you will see the low mountains, the sea, the loughs (i.e., Lough Swilly) and the lovely fields  Nearby the Gaeltacht is Letterkenny, which is a very fast growing town in Ireland.  From Letterkenny, you can catch a bus to Derry in Northern Ireland and explore the small city.  From Derry, make your way east to the Giant's Causeway and North Antrim Coast.  Bushmills Distillery is cool to check out, and not far from the Causeway.  The prices in the North of Ireland are lower, and the sites are not as touristy as places in the South (e.g., Bunratty, Blarney Castle, Kilkenny Castle, Waterford, etc).  Those places are lovely as well, but they often overlook  the "real Ireland."

  3. Ireland is unique in many ways.  The beauty and the challenge is that its beauty is spread out, but since the island is small you could do most of it in a week.  I was there for 1 week of pleasure and 2 weeks of business.  My favorite areas were the following:

    Lower Shannon Region

    1) Cliffs of Moher - Spectacular views of huge cliffs on the ocean.

    2) The Burren - Limestone formations due to years of soil erosion, fantastic.  (Caves exist, old tombs from the age of the great egyptian pyramids, unreal)

    3) The Bunratty Castle - Outside of Shannon, very well kept castle.

    4) The Rock of Cashel - One of my favorite stops!!!  An old church and abby, exquisite!!

    CORK and KERRY

    1) The Dingle Peninsula (tough drive to get there well worth it)

    2) Blarney Castle (home of the blarney stone) - Expect long lines, but worth it.

    3) Lakes of Killarney beautifyl views and eating!!!

DUBLIN - Watch out for Traffic getting in and out of the city

    1) Too much to discuss...  See Trinity College, hit the pub district, Guinness is fun, walking around is fantastic, many great Cathedrals, a hole in the wall that had the best food was Leo Burdocks for fish and chips!  It was a highlight of our trip.

WATERFORD - Hit the waterford crystal plant great tour...

GALWAY - Great for a laid back shopping atmosphere...  My wife loved it and very nice pubs too.  Nice balance for a husband and wife.  : )

This is a great start...  I only am reporting on the things I experienced first hand.  Other things I wanted to see was the Giants Causway and Northern Ireland has its flare also!!

  4. Belfast

    or

    Derry

    Great for nighlife and shopping.

    Really friendly people too.

  5. Dublin is the biggest city and thus has the best nightlife, shopping, museums etc

County Wicklow just south of Dublin has some really nice areas

The west coast of Ireland is where the best scenery is, counties Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Clare and Kerry face the rugged atlantic ocean and there are some spectacular sights to be seen here.

In galway, Connemara has a fantastic national park and some great coastal drives.  In Mayo, achill island has some of irelands best beaches and also Europes highest seacliffs.

County Clare has the unearthly burren and the amazing cliffs of moher.  In Kerry the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of kerry are tourist favourites and people from all over the world travel to towns like Killarney

Northern Ireland has some fine sights as well, the world renowed Giants causeway is well worth a visit as is the north antrim coast
