What are some of the cases that a private investigator can take on besides cheating spouses??

As long as you do not hinder a police investigation, you can work all types of cases. Many do work for insurance companies to find cases of fraud.

Ongoing criminal cases are supposed to be left to actual law enforcement.  Private Investigators will actually get in trouble if they try to assist in things like murder cases (interfering with a police investigation).

PI's usually stick with the aforementioned cheating spouses, insurance fraud, finding missing people (deadbeat parents).
