Some basic tools for measuring are a flat steel ruler,(walmart) small calipers, (Hdepot) and there are templates available for hole sizes, best hand tool for boring and cutting in a Dremel, its adaptable for all types of crafts as there are also many attachments that can be used with it.  Krylon spray adhesive is a good general purpose adhesive, many adhesives are made for a specific purpose, I would suggest you find a Michaels store and peruse the products to fit your need even if you don't buy there.
