  1. hwinnum is certainly right, to make a small fortune in horses, start with a large one.  I've heard that so many times it has lost it's humor.

  2. A farrier can earn a decent wage but they literally break their backs doing it.

  3. it really depends, a good trainer can make anywhere from 0- a million per year depending on how may horses he has in the barn and how many are producers, a typical trainer will charge $500- $750 per horse per month with the owner paying all the horse bills, they also charge day fees at shows and hauling fees for transport, so a trainer with 20 show horses in his barn should make about $120,000 year in training fees and about $20,800 in day fees assuming they are taking 10 of those 20 to shows = $140,800 plus premiums on sales of horses of about 10% and 15% of winnings on the horse. It is fair to assume a trainer should end up at about $250,000 with that metod.

photographers normally charge $60 per picture so at a large horse show like the quarterhorse congress they can make about $150,000 for that show alone but that would take along time to get the exclusivity for an event like that, the norm for smaller shows is prob about $10,000 per show, if you factor about 36 shows a year you should be looking at $360,000.

the top producing jockeys earned millinions this year but again can be anywhere from 0- millions with a good jockey with good horses around $300,000.

your vets really don't make as much as you think they do, they liability insurence in rediculously expensive as it is which greatly takes away from their bottom line.

I would say the three I listed are prob the highest paid on average though but take lotts of training, skill and luck!

  4. People that sell equine pharmaceuticals often do very well.... but its alot of traveling :/

  5. It's a well known saying that the way to make a small fortune with horses, is to start with a large fortune.

You could always try photography or art.

  6. Equine chiropractor... if you don't call that a vet. Trainers also make good money if they are good.
