What are some of the largest ports for sailing?

Not sure just what you mean by ports.  But anyway, if you are interested in general areas where theres a lot of sailing:

Chesapeake Bay, San Fransisco, Long Island Sound (and related bays and sounds such as Narragansette, Buzzards, Nantucket) are probably the big three.  There's also large sailing communities in Los Angeles, the Chicago area, the Strait of San Juan de Fuca and related waters, San Diego and Florida.
