  1. Eroding viewership.

    DVRs that allow ad skipping (thus their product placement blitz)

    FCC censorship rules versus cable's lack of rules.


  2. In the UK with the vast increase in TV channels over the last 20 years.  Advertising rates have reduced because the TV audience is more fragmented.  As a result more repeats are being shown and less new programs are being made unless they are relatively inexpensive to produce.

    The BBC is not affected by this as it's funded by license payers money.

    The good thing about it is that far fewer programs will be wiped but instead they'll be archived for possible future broadcast or sale.



  3. Economic inflation, oil prices and rental and housing accomodations.

  4. Income, as more advertising dollars are going to the internet.
