Well...Im not sure of the suburbs...most are very nice and  i think pretty expensive....but you are saying that you want to live in the burbs for fear of getting mugged in the city you are being missled....I moved to madrid from and Chicago and compared to the U.S. Madrid is extremely safe...very low crime...
