Question:

What are some of the other things brought to you by global warming scientists?

I mean, in addition to computers, cell phones, prosperity, etc?

I'm blocked from the other question. But it's most all of the scientists in the world saying global warming is real, and mostly caused by us.

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us. The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

  1. Right....don't forget Al Gore brought us the internet, too.

The INDIVIDUALS who brought us these wonderful inventions are not now studying global warming, and those studying global warming haven't brought us anything at all (including prosperity).  Taking credit for others' work is intellectually dishonest...and very socialistic.

  2. The interesting thing is that the military brought us most of the technology we enjoy today, due to the need to develop better forms of communication while in a war zone. I also can't find any fault with the statement that an engineer is also a scientist, since they both look for answers to complex problems. I would also add machinists to that list. Only due to the fact that I watched my father use his mind to create tools to make his daily life better. Funny thing is he never went to college.

  3. "What are some of the other things brought to you by global warming scientists?

I mean, in addition to computers, cell phones, prosperity, etc?"

Well, "global warming scientists" didn't bring us things like "computers, cell phones, prosperity, etc", and it is odd that you would say that they did.

    "And yes, engineers are scientists."

    How, specifically?

  4. For decades, environmentalism has been the Left's best excuse for increasing government control over our actions in ways both large and small. It's for Mother Earth! It's for the children! It's for the whales!

But until now, the doomsday-scenario environmental scares they've trumped up haven't been large enough to give the sinister prize they want most of all: total control of American politics, economic activity, and even individual behavior.

With global warming, however, greenhouse gasbags can argue that auto emissions in Ohio threaten people in Paris, and that only global government can tackle such problems.

    National sovereignty? Democracy?

Forget it: global warming has now brought the Left closer to global government, statism, and the eradication of individual rights than it has ever been before.

  5. it became political conservatives have to deny it , never mind the facts - partisanship of nowadays.

  6. Yea, it's too bad that these scientist are busy researching something that is true.

It's time to end the funding on researching global warming, put these scientist in the private sector so they can come up with solutions on how to reduce co2 emissions.

  7. Well, how about the crazy things they tell us?

Don't smoke.  Don't drink too much.  Eat your vegetables.  Don't eat too much meat.  Don't sleep around. Wear your seat-belt.  Get an annual physical exam.  Drink coffee, don't drink coffee. Don't eat eggs; it's ok to eat eggs.  Exercise every day.  Stay out of the sun, sunlight is necessary for health.

Well, my grandfather drank and smoked and ate a half a pound of bacon and three eggs every day, worked outside his whole life, kept with the ladies, never wore a seat belt and never exercised and lived to 93.  Well, it's all true except the part about the ladies. ;)

Why should I believe anything these guys say?

How do we explain that science, imperfect as it is, is still by far the best model we have?

Why do we not have the cabinet position of “Chief Scientist”?

Or “Auditor General” for that matter.

  8. I'll refrain from making a negative listing. Not my cup of tea.

In response, I  would say the medical field. The average person doing without conveniences could live without the rest. Maybe... a point of consideration in the grand scheme of things. But it should be voluntary and not mandatory. A good question in a round about way.

  9. Well that depends on how you define 'global warming scientists', of course.  Whether it's any scientist who agrees with the consensus, or if it's climate scientists.  Climate scientists have brought us a much better understanding of how the Earth's climate functions.

If you just mean scientists in general - you name it, they've invented it.  And yes, engineers are scientists.

  10. For me it is the huge advances being made with solar, and ground effect energy sources, as the cost of heating water, and homes increases, the need for this technology will increase, and the easier the scientists make it to install, using materials found all around us, I think will make it affordable for all. I, like many others, will react to the possibility of global warming, if it affects my finances, so my purchase of solar panels, seems to be a solid investment.

  11. this scientist (as well as many others) disagrees with you bobajob http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2008/...

  12. Most of the damages can be attributed to the effects of modern science and technology.  For example, a lot of the major pollution is caused by chemical products and not the natural ones, which tend to be biodegradable.  Most of the technological advances have had undesirable consequences mixed in with the more positive ones, such as convenience, speed and safety.  Many of the undesirable consequences have been social and psychological in nature, but physical dangers to life forms and to the planet in general also have been caused by the wizards who brought us technology and financial prosperity.

I notice that all the organizations you have listed are registered organizations on the system.  It might make your anwer self-explanatory.

Technology and science are not necessarily the same thing.  I would say that scientists and organizations such as those you have listed function in a manner similar to that of the media.  It is therefore difficult for people to know for sure which are the real threats and even which "information" is real.  The consequences and the damages are for real, and we know that much.

  13. Open your eyes . It is a scam which is costing us billion's of dollars, and even Gore does not believe..

  14. I'm not sure that Yahoo Answers works well with rhetorical questions, so I'm just going to join you.

It's interesting, to me, that the people we argue with over ACC often like to wield Occam's Razor in their arguments, particularly when they are arguing creationism vs. evolution, because these people do not understand how Occam's Razor works.

If we apply Occam's Razor to global climate change, then the answer is obviously that mankind is altering and manipulating its natural environment to the extent that it is causing global change.

Occam's Razor does not work in that we can say the simplest answer is the correct answer. If that were the case then there would be no point to science as we could just explain everything as God's will because that's nice and simple.

To see so many people who would like to wield Occam's Razor reaching for straws like gravitational cycles just makes me laugh. A true scientists doesn't treat science like a cafeteria - grabbing what he wants to believe and leaving everything else behind. While gravitational cycles may play a part, there is no overwhelming pile of evidence to support that claim. There is one study (I'll read it and then we can rip it to pieces in another question maybe).

Now, you do bring a very good point that you, and many of the others may not realize (though I think as a professional Environmental Scientist you will). Many of the people that are now fighting against ACC are in the very same fields that brought technological evolution causing climate change. For example, chemical engineering programs at the majority of universities now have mandatory emissions reduction courses and other mandatory and elective courses for "Green Engineering". Chemical engineers are primarily responsible for enabling ACC to occur. This is just one example.

What I'm saying is that we scientists brought it on ourselves.

So many "skeptics" act as though we are trying to blame the world, but the truth is that we are trying to correct the course we've set the world on.

    That's simply not the case.

  15. You are absolutely wowed by scientists and your understanding of what scientists do seems to come from watching kids cartoons.

Actually products are brought to you by truck drivers.  They were designed by engineers.

A lot of engineers don't believe in significant AGW.

I'm quite sure IBM and Motorola don't have a single scientist on their design teams.  Scientists generally work for universities and they don't design products - they educate the people who do.

  16. Well to start with they brought us acid rain because they promoted the use of oil, coal and gas for generating electricity over nuclear and solar.

Secondly they backed Jimmy Carter in shutting down the program to put solar generating plants in orbit.

Thirdly they have brought us the current wide based energy crisis and rampant inflation because of it. Think Enron and the current cost of all oil products.

These are all parts of the best organized and best planned con game ever foisted on the American people and what choice do we have in November but non oil supported dumb and big oil funded dumber that is a better clone of Elmer Gantry than ever seen before.

  17. they also brought us the coming ice ages of the 70's and 20's.
