particularly if the individual do not have any family?

Is the situation different in different communities, such as Blacks, Whites, Latinas, etc.? If so how is the situation different?

How do young people in the community relate to them and what do they expect of them?

How dependant is the situation on Geography and Religion?

  1. Older people have higher rates of committing suicide. Rates are higher for people who don't have any family or close friends. They become disconnected from society.

Suicide rates are the highest for white male protestants. Catholics and Jews have lower rates of suicide because they are more connected and sometimes dependent on each other.

Also rich people are more likely to commit suicide than poor people.

  2. With much of the retiring weekly allowance not really increasing with inflation, with the Winter Fuel Allowance (or the equivalent in the US)being means tested, and other factors, our old age pensioners do have it a little rough.

Unless the young person is family it is likely that they will do nothing, and why should they?  many of our middle agers in society do nothings either, the community spirit say the old is dieing.

  3. It's good to have an avocation when the jobs run out. I worked well after retirement age. I'm working on a book with my daughter; I'm active with my EAA chapter serving as flight adviser, an important position in the interest of flight safety.

Up til recently, I had a sideline of landscape design, which my son is carrying on with good effect.

  4. seniors are in really bad shape as most of them dont have the money to retire and will be forced out of a job. thats why most move out of big states and go to rural where the cost living is so much lower.

social security will also be an issue as more baby boomers retire there will be less in the funds to support them

start saving up NOW! because it doesnt look to bright for us!

  5. Many different things.

Check out this blog below, they talk about these issues.

  6. Identity theft from people who are even older than they are...in one community there is an sizeable proportion of 60-year olds (formerly in the oil and gas exploration business) who are "taken away by the Lord" in the obits every DAY!

I guess they are dying either of Krohns disease or oil and gas poisoning, but there are 65, 70, 80 and 90-year olds who wouldn't mind being 60...
